With but a few exceptions the squares in our County are maintained by volunteers. At most clubs just one, possibly two, dedicated souls make it possible for players to enjoy their summer games. Our Association has been formed primarily with the aims of :-
To increase the knowledge and expertise of all groundsmen
To increase the number of practising groundsmen
To help raise the quality of pitches
Organise training courses
To provide specialised equipment, where needed
How can we achieve these aims? It has often been said that groundsmen learn most by speaking to one another. Our regular meetings give an opportunity to not only listen to expert advice but to meet with colleagues and discuss problems and solutions.
The I.O.G. offer training each spring and autumn and our Association is pleased to organise courses for those showing interest in groundsmanship. Please either enroll for a course or, if you have been trained, urge another from within your club to enroll.
The arrival in the County of the Channel 4 trailer of equipment, which is now available for hire to affiliated clubs is a great asset for clubs with limited equipment. However, the need for training and knowledge as to how to safely and wisely use this is essential.
I'm sure this web site will contribute towards our aims and I urge all members to forward contributions to the site to Ian Smith"
